On Sunday July 18, 17 representatives from Sandgate competed in Match Play at Gailes Golf Club. All matches were played in good spirit and on a foreign course, our players found it difficult to match the golfing prowess of the Gailes team.

Oliver Wright plays his first Pennant match for Sandgate
Special mention to our newest junior member, Oliver Wright. At just 10 years of age, he played against an older and more experienced Gailes junior. Oliver played all 18 holes and I witnessed many fine shots from this emerging golfer.
Also, Mark Gooding and Dave Flowers matched their opponents in see-sawing matches all the way to the 18th hole. Well done Mark and Dave.
Thanks to all players who represented Sandgate Golf Club with great sportsmanship. Everyone enjoyed a hearty lunch following the game. After presentations, I’m pleased to say that Gailes officially declared Sandgate as winners of “The Song”. We look forward to Gailes visiting Sandgate on August 22 where we will return the hospitality shown to us, and use our local knowledge to swing some results our way.
