A capacity field of 70 players enjoyed the lush conditions at Sandgate Golf Course. Representing more than half the field, visitors heaped praise on the grounds staff for presenting the course in magnificent shape. For the first time in many years, the course was played with no “preferred lies”. This has been made possible thanks to the better than average rainfall of late as well as the tireless efforts of many volunteers who have been kept busy mowing fairways, tee blocks and light rough.
Congratulations to Janis Fagan and her organising team for presenting a great opportunity to the Lady members of Sandgate and surrounding clubs to come together in this special milestone of Sandgate Golf Club history.
Life member Mrs Joy Black, who has been a member since 1960, gave an enlightening speech at the lunchtime celebrations and cut the ceremonial cake. In her entertaining speech, she recounted the strict dress codes of years gone-by as well as everyone having to carry their own clubs over the shoulder.
